I am very fortunate to be living stone's throw from the Santo Domingo Church where the image of centuries old ivory image of Virgen La Naval de Manila is currently enshrined. Not only that the Virgen known for Her powerful intercessions but recognized as one of the Philippines Cultural Treasure for the antiquity and cultural relevance. The Virgen celebrates Her feast every second Sunday of October. One of the most anticipated event aside from the grand procession is the enthronement rites and the beso manto. This is the only time the Virgen is brought our from her altar and an opportunity to be seen up close. Here are some photos from the enthronement rites and beso manto. |

mantle. The icon of the virgen was venerated during the year 1588 in the church of the Holy Kings in Manila, which was under the Dominican Fathers. Later in 1598, the icon was transferred to the Church of St. Gabriel in Binondo. After the earthquake in June 1863, the icon was brought to the parish of Binondo where she is presently venerated. The new feast of the virgen will be celebrated every last Sunday of May. Here are a few photos taken during the event. Virgen del Pronto Socorro de Binondo Photo Gallery |
