I was able to experience a lot of new things. It wasn't part of my plans to join the procession, but I was able to do so. Playing "patintero" with the police, just to be able to get to the bridge for the fluvial procession, was another amazing experience LOL. And the most rewarding part was being able to have a top view of the translacion. Thanks to the good people who allowed us to their penthouse. Seeing thousands or even millions of people joining the translacion was breathtaking! I was able to capture a 15 seconds video (via Instagram) of the tail of the translacion.
This was my second time to attend the Feast of Virgen de Peñafrancia. My 1st time was during her 300th years in 2010. I prefer attending the fluvial procession since it is always on a weekend. In addition, I will always be able to witness the translacion, which happens before the fluvial procession. I was able to experience a lot of new things. All set to attend the Fluvial Procession of Virgen Peñafrancia! Instead of going straight to Naga, I took the flight to Legazpi. It is more cheaper and time saving rather than taking the bus. In addition, part of my plan was to do visita iglesia in towns of Albay down to some towns of Camarines Sur. My original plan was to make stops in every town of Albay, but due to limited time, I was only able to do half of my itinerary. Touchdown at Legazpi at around passed 5AM, arrived at my 1st stop (Joroan Church) at around 9AM. I was able to hit 8 towns out of the planned 14, plus 3 churches in Naga, Camarines Sur. I have only included photos of the exterior of each church. I will be posting more photos in "Visita Iglesia" - a separate tab found in this site. Kindly check back soon. Here are the photos of the churches. Bicol Visita Iglesia Photo GalleryI always visit the painting of Virgen de Turumba at Her chapel inside the convent. The image is enclosed inside a glass altar with beautiful wooden sculptures depicting several biblical scenes. At first, I really didn't focus much on the sculptures, but it came into me that these sculptures could and should have relevance to the Virgen. And so, one by one I examined each. Virgen de Turumba slapped me and then I realized that those sculptures were depictions of the Seven Sorrows of Mary! Which is the reason why we celebrate the “Pitong Lupi”. It was really funny how I wasn't able to figure it out right away. For reference, I took photos of the sculptures. For those who don’t know and that includes me, here are the seven sorrows of the Blessed Mothers: 1. The Prophecy of Simeon 2. The Flight to Egypt 3. The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple 4. The Meeting of Jesus and Mary on the Way to the Cross 5. The Crucifixion 6. The Taking Down of the Body of Jesus from the Cross 7. The Burial of Jesus Seven Sorrows Chapel Photo Gallery |
